HONOLULU  – Armstrong Builders recently received two Grand Awards and an Award of Merit at the Building Industry of Hawaii’s 27th annual Renaissance Building and Remodeling awards competition. Showcasing its diverse skill set, Armstrong Builders was recognized for a sustainable residential development, a kitchen renovation and a custom luxury home.

“We’re extremely honored that three of our projects were recognized by the BIA this year,” said James Keller, president of Armstrong Builders.  “ These awards are evidence of the hard work our team has put into creating high quality homes and developments.”

For its work on La‘i Opua on the Big Island of Hawaii, Armstrong Builders was awarded the Grand Division Award for Hawaii Built Green LEED Certified-Residential. The sustainable community was built in partnership with the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands and was both designed and built by Armstrong Builders. Centered on the concept of indoor-outdoor living, the homes include flexible spaces that can be used for living or utility. The homes include many energy efficient features that make them affordable to buy and maintain. Additionally, all five single-family model homes in the 43-home subdivision are certified as LEED Gold.

The Artful Kitchen, a luxury renovation, earned Armstrong Builders the Grand Award in the Kitchen Projects More than $100,001. The luxury remodel transformed a dated, compartmentalized kitchen into a modern 800-square-foot kitchen ideal for entertaining and showcasing the owners’ extensive art collection. The remodel aimed to seamlessly integrate the kitchen with other parts of the home, including Ossipoff designed elements.  Unique features included a Western red cedar ceiling with champagne finish, a white oak floor with whitewash finish, hardwood-painted cabinets with artisan glass insets, leathered-finish stone countertops with waterfall edge, stainless steel sliding under-counter table, 10-foot-long appliance garage, custom stainless steel hood, and walnut serving buffet.

Armstrong Builders also earned an Award of Merit for its work on an East Oahu Kama’aina Family Home. Designed by Peter Vincent Architects, this 5,500-square-foor four-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath Hawaiian style home combines indoor/outdoor living and takes advantage of stunning oceanfront views from nearly every room. Designed for family living, the home features an airy, open floor plan with the kitchen and great room in one wing, the bedrooms in another and a large covered outdoor lanai.  The home was also positioned to capture ocean breezes, greatly reducing the need for air conditioning.

Sponsored by the BIA-Hawai'i Remodelers™ Council, The Renaissance Building & Remodeling Awards showcases excellence in commercial, residential and public works building/remodeling projects.
