ATAC Survival Quick Tips for Rappelling: The Essentials of Rappelling (Anchors)
There are three components of a rappel system that are required. The first is the Anchors. This is the component of the system that is at the top of the descent that prevents you from falling. When we look at setting up a Rappel system we always start at the Anchors. We use at least two bomb proof anchors, although three are preferable. Bombproof, meaning that it would take a sizable bomb to move our anchors. Anchors can be trees, boulders or a combination of both.
