Valley, PA—November 29, 2011—Orleans Homes, one of the country’s oldest, continually operated home builders, recently invited homeowners of its adjacent Hillview neighborhoods in Chester County (the Courts at Hillview and Hillview Estates) to participate in a new initiative designed to elicit feedback on a series of four new floor plans currently in development for active adult communities for individuals 55+.

Feedback collected from the Hillview neighborhoods, along with feedback collected from Orleans’ Wildflowers neighborhood in New York, as part of this initiative, will be taken back to the building architects and incorporated into the new floor plans.  These floor plans will be developed into new homes currently being built in the Hillview neighborhoods, as well as Orleans’ two other active adult neighborhoods: Wildflowers in Middletown, NY and Wildflowers at Medford in Medford, NJ.

On November 9, 2011, the Hillview sales center hosted a luncheon that gathered current and prospective homeowners into seven focus groups to review and discuss the new floor plans.  Led by sales team members from the Hillview neighborhoods and Orleans Northeast Division management, focus groups reviewed various aspects of the plans, including exterior façade options and interior spaces.  Details discussed included the location and size of closets; kitchen features and appliance locations; the layout of the living and dining areas; etc.  To aid groups in visualizing the floor plans, the sales center developed a blueprint staging area, complete with masking tape outlining the specific dimensions of the kitchen space of the floor plans.

“Orleans Homes is dedicated to providing tailored experiences for our customers,” said Orleans Homes President and CEO George E. Casey, Jr.  “Rather than assuming we know best, we’re inviting homeowners to be a part of the design process and help make recommendations that will be incorporated into these new floor plans as they’re rolled out over the next six to nine months.”

What Orleans Homes is learning from listening to active adult homeowners include the following key trends:

The more choices, the better when it comes to offering various layouts and design of homes

  • Front and rear porches are popular for reading and relaxing
  • Entrance closets should be spacious to accommodate frequently used outerwear, especially for communities located in colder weather climates
  • Orleans’ senior-friendly package (including such options as lever door handles and grab bars) is popular among those older residents looking to remain in their home as they age
  • His and her closets in master bedrooms are preferred
  • “Flex spaces” to allow for personalization and lifestyle needs are a favorite

“Engaging with consumers at the very beginning of the homebuilding process is what makes Orleans unique in today’s residential real estate market,” said Orleans Homes Northeast Division President Michael Palmer, who led the Hillview initiative.

About Hillview Estates and The Courts at Hillview

The adjacent Hillview neighborhoods, created from existing farmlands whose original buildings can be seen throughout the various amenity buildings, include single family homes and carriage homes.  Perched high atop a ridge, the communities offer sweeping views of the countryside.  Residents are anxiously awaiting the grand opening of the newest amenity, the clubhouse, complete with a dining facility for community-hosted events, which is slated for completion in early 2012.
