Central Carolina Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization serving 11 counties in the Midlands by helping charitable individuals and businesses meet the needs of our community, will host the 18th annual Central Carolina Food & Wine Festival gala event on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at The Medallion Center in Columbia, South Carolina.

Known as the premier wine festival in the Midlands, guests will have a chance to sample more than 200 wines from all over the globe, as well as enjoy mouth-watering specialties from some of the finest chefs the area has to offer.

Participating wine distributors include Advintage Fine Wine Sales & Distribution, Aleph Wines Corporation, Ben Arnold Beverage Company, Grapevine Distributors, Grassroots Wine Wholesalers, Republic National Distributing Company and Southern Wine & Spirits of South Carolina. In addition to wines from around the world, there will also be a selection of craft beers.

Chefs from some of the Midlands best restaurants and caterers — and even a food truck — will be preparing their specialties. First-time participants include Alfresco Mobilista, Fountain Room at Tapp's, Mezza, Chocolate Nirvana, The Happy Cookers, Café Caturra and Spotted Salamander Catering. Delicious selections from these establishments as well as the following returning restaurants will serve as superb complements to the fine wines and craft beer:

  • Blue Marlin
  • The Capital City Club
  • The Gourmet Shop
  • The Happy Café
  • Harper’s Restaurant
  • Let’s Cook Culinary Studio
  • The Melting Pot
  • MoMo’s Bistro
  • The Oyster Bar
  • SakiTumi
  • Thirsty Fellow Pizzeria and Pub
  • Tombo Grille

After sampling all of the delicious food, guests will be able to vote for the best dish from participating restaurants as well as the best cake in Columbia Metropolitan Magazine’s annual Top Cake Contest. The top five cake recipes will be featured in the April 2012 issue of Columbia Metropolitan, with the winner decided by vote at the Gala.

The Wine Festival has served as the annual fundraiser for Central Carolina Community Foundation since 1995. Sponsored by SCBT, the Festival’s events draw more than 700 attendees from the greater Columbia area each year to enjoy fine wines, delicious food, live music and networking opportunities. All proceeds from the Festival support the Foundation’s efforts to award grants to nonprofit organizations in the Midlands. Last year, Central Carolina Community Foundation awarded more than $9.3 million in grants and scholarships.

During the past 17 years, the Festival has raised almost $810,000 for the Foundation to continue its mission to promote, facilitate and increase philanthropy to create a sustainable impact within our community through responsible giving.

The Central Carolina Food and Wine Festival Gala will take place at The Medallion Center on Tuesday, April 17 from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $75 and can be purchased online at www.yourfoundation.org.
