BURLINGTON, Vt. – The Zonta Club of Burlington is hosting their 16th Annual Celebrity Spelling Bee on Thurs., May 10 to benefit the Champlain College Single Parents Program. Held in Champlain’s Alumni Auditorium (246 South Willard St, Burlington), the Bee will begin at 7 p.m. following a reception with hors d’ouevres in the IDX Student Life Center Fireside Lounge beginning at 6 p.m.
Teams of corporate sponsors will be competing to out-spell other corporate teams of three. Each sponsor donated $300 to help provide struggling single parent students with a Champlain College education. This education will help them compete successfully in today’s job market, improving the quality of their lives and the lives of their children.
In the past 13 years, the Zonta Club has helped raise over $70,000 for the Champlain College Single Parents Program.
“The Zontians have served as the ‘guardian angels’ to the Single Parents Program for the past 13 years.” said Carol Moran-Brown, Director of Counseling and founder of the Single Parents Program at Champlain College. “Their strong support and commitment to our program has been a tremendous asset to the program. We are incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful supporters!”
This year, repeat sponsors are looking forward to taking the title of Spelling Bee Champion away from the defending champions, Strategic Wealth Coach, LLC. Other sponsors providing groups of three competitors include The Automaster, Ben & Jerry’s, Coldwell Banker Hickok & Boardman Realty, Freeman French Freeman, Inc., Friends of Literacy, Grippin Donlan Pinkham, Otter Creek Awnings, Sunrooms and Closets, Preci Manufacturing, Twincraft Soap, James H. Wick, P.C., Wendell’s Angels, Gordon’s Window Décor, and more.
The evening will be hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Rob Michalak, Global Director of Social Mission and Elations at Ben & Jerry's, who is sure to provide a light evening of good-humored competition since this will be his third time as host. The Bee is open to the public and has an entry donation of $10, which includes the reception beforehand. It is guaranteed to be an evening to remember for all participants as well as their cheering fans.
