ENTERTAINMENT LEGEND AND COMEDIENNE JOAN RIVERS COMES TO CHANDLER CENTER FOR THE ARTS

The Emmy Award-Winning Talk Show Host and Best-Selling Author Brings a Night of Laughter to Arizona Fans

CHANDLER, AZ – [March 7, 2012] –  The unscripted, uncensored and unpredictable Joan Rivers will soon bring her one-of-a-kind act to Chandler Center for the Arts.  Described by the Evening Standard as, “Not so much a stand-up comic as a force of nature, a human tornado,” she continues to surprise and leave her audiences in stitches after more than forty years in the entertainment industry.  Joan Rivers will perform live at Chandler Center for the Arts on Friday, March 30, 2012 at 8:00pm.

A true pioneer, Rivers invented an unconventional, saucy brand of comedy all her own, unrelentlessly forging a path to becoming the entertainment legend of unmatched ability and success that she is today.  She began her career at the very bottom, playing shows at shoddy clubs and hotels, Greenwich Village cabarets, persisting all the while through the unending deprivation and embarassment.

Her tenacity paid off nearly ten years later when she appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson in 1968.  Rivers’ career took off full speed ahead after the appearance, landing a job hosting one of the first syndicated daytime television shows, That Show With Joan Rivers, only three years later.  She then quickly went on to make television history as The Tonight Show’s first sole guest host.

The Late Show Starring Joan Rivers helped the 1986 launch of the Fox Network before returning to daytime TV with The Joan Rivers Show in 1989.  The success of her program won her not only  a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but also an Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host ; and her  achievements do not stop there.

As a host of E!’s red carpet events for more than 15 years, Rivers keeps a constant pulse on the worlds of fashion and beauty.  The Joan Rivers Classics Collection of fashion jewelry first aired on QVC in 1990 and became an instant sensation, earning her an ACE Award from the Accessories Council in 1997 and the acclaim to begin a second home shopping venture.  Stemming from Rivers’ “firm belief that when women look their best, they can be their best,” Joan Rivers Beauty was born on QVC in 2000.  The ever expanding offering of products includes color cosmetics, Absolutely Magic skincare and her fragrance, Now & Forever.

Joan took her business know-how to the second season of NBC’s smash hit series, The Celebrity Apprentice, in 2009 and emerged as the winner.  Next, she honed her writing skills in the publication of two best-selling, critically acclaimed books, Murder at the Academy Awards: A Red Carpet Murder Mystery and Men are Stupid and They Like Big Boobs: A Woman’s Guide to Beauty Through Plastic Surgery.

As a woman continually on the move, Joan Rivers recognizes the important role bone health plays in helping everyone live the lives they desire.  She harnessed the concern particularly about osteoporosis, a condition that is found in one in two women over the age of fifty, by becoming a National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) Ambassador in 2004.  Rivers delivered her message to Capitol Hill in 2005 and worked with Congressional leaders and the Surgeon General to increase support, awareness and action.  She was honored that same year by NOF with an unprecedented Innovation Award.

Joan remains a driving force for NOF, heads both QVC product lines, is a resident of the red carpet and is a frequent guest on various national talk shows. In addition, she hosts the weekly show Fashion Police on E! alongside fashion experts Giuliana Rancic, George Kotsiopoulos and Kelly Osbourne.

Chandler Center for the Arts proudly presents the multi-talented powerhouse Joan Rivers for a live stand up comedy show unlike any other March 30, 2012.
