RALEIGH, NC, May 4, 2012 – Triangle Down Syndrome Network (TDSN, www.tdsn.org), announced today that its annual fundraising walk, Step Up for Down Syndrome (formerly the Buddy Walk), will be held on October  14thth, 2012, at Brier Creek Community Park. This year’s Walk theme will be “Stepping Up to Connect Families.” Each year, October is designated nationally as Down Syndrome Awareness Month.

“We are very excited to get this information out to our local community and extended family, friends and supporters in Central/Eastern North Carolina and beyond.” Lana Calloway, Walk Chair 2012.  “Our theme this year is Stepping Up To Connect Families which is about showing our community spirit and paying it forward.  When each of us needed support from TDSN it was there, and now everyone can fundraise and walk to ensure that TDSN is there for the next diagnosed family. “

This annual event is the single, largest fundraising and awareness event for TDSN generating nearly $100,000 and including approximately 1,200 attendees.  TDSN uses their funds to support and educate families and provide community programming including: monthly educational meetings, new member socials and support groups for newly-diagnosed families, D.A.D.S. and GRANDS, as well as social activities for families, teen dances, a bi-monthly newsletter and online community through Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/TriangleDownSyndromeNetwork), Twitter (https://twitter.com/#!/TRIANGLEDSN) and Yahoo Groups.
