PHILADELPHIA, PA – June 13, 2012 – DreamIt Ventures (“DreamIt”), the leading technology accelerator for entrepreneurs, announced today that its upcoming program for Fall 2012 will feature the second installment of DreamIt Access, its minority-focused entrepreneur program.  DreamIt Access is a dedicated effort to launch up to 15 minority-led startups over the next 12 months and continues on the heels of recent DreamIt efforts to significantly and positively attack the issue of underrepresentation of minorities in the tech sector.

Comcast Ventures, the venture capital affiliate of Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSA, CMCSK), one of the world’s leading media, entertainment and communications companies, has extended its investment in DreamIt Access for two additional program cycles.  This new commitment will ensure each DreamIt Access startup will receive seed funding, mentoring, and other benefits while it participates in one of DreamIt’s upcoming cycles in Philadelphia this fall or in New York in 2013.

DreamIt Access was born out of the idea that providing minority-led startups with access to mentors, investors, and subject matter experts throughout the technology arena can positively impact the underrepresentation of minorities in the startup ecosystem.  “The DreamIt Access experience provides an unmatched environment for minority entrepreneurs to test their ideas, learn from, and alongside, other startups, and build great companies.  The same success we have seen with our DreamIt companies such as SCVNGR, SeatGeek, and Adaptly can be achieved with minority-led startups through focused efforts like DreamIt Access.,” said William Crowder, Managing Director at DreamIt and lead partner for the DreamIt Access program.

A DreamIt Access cycle is currently underway in New York City where 5 minority-led startups: CampGurus, FirstCrush, RevSign, Urban Cargo, and Winston along with 10 other startups are actively engaged in the rapid development of their businesses.  DreamIt’s inaugural 2011 minority program successfully launched 5 companies last December.

"DreamIt really is leading the tech industry in tackling one of its more difficult problems, that of diversity, by supporting people from different backgrounds building technology companies.  In the case of my startup, metaLayer, DreamIt provided a wealth of mentorship, coaching, community, and access to resources that were simply out of our reach and out of our network prior to being accepted. Knowing that even more entrepreneurs will have the same opportunity is fantastic news," said Jon Gosier, founder of metaLayer, one of DreamIt's first minority program graduates.

DreamIt is now accepting applications for its Fall Philadelphia program and will select up to fifteen companies, including five minority-led startups, to participate in the three-month accelerator program.  The deadline for applications is July 6th and the program will kickoff on September 7th.
