WASHINGTON, June 25, 2012 — Environics Communications, Inc., a full-service North American PR agency, today announced that Shakirah Holley and Merrick Kranz have joined the agency as digital media specialists.

Holley joins Environics from Equal Justice Works, a nonprofit helping law students and lawyers provide effective representation for underserved communities and causes.  At Equal Justice Works, Holley developed the organization’s social media program including Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Foursquare, acted as the organization’s resident blogger, and provided social media support for major events.

Previously, she was a communications specialist at Partners in Lifting Athletic Youth, a Maryland organization that promotes the personal and physical growth of student athletes.  She has a master’s degree in public relations and corporate communications with a specialization in digital media from Georgetown University, and she is a volunteer with Habitat for Humanity and So Others Might Eat (SOME).

Kranz comes to Environics from the Department of Legislative and Political Affairs at the Transport Workers Union (TWU) in Washington, D.C.  At TWU, he served as the media manager, developing and implementing social and traditional media strategy and crafting messaging campaigns on legislative issues important to TWU members and constituents.

Prior to this position, Kranz worked at Susan Davis International, a public relations and marketing firm.  He managed the agency’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, and worked on The Foundation Fighting Blindness client.  Kranz also has experience as a videographer and video editor.  He graduated from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in international affairs and English with a concentration in creative writing.

“Our digital communications team, strengthened with the addition of Merrick and Shakirah, works closely with our entire staff to develop and deliver integrated communications campaigns for a wide range of for-profit and nonprofit clients,” said Dave Groobert, U.S. general manager for Environics.  “We are also expanding our video capabilities with these new team members, to meet rapidly increasing client needs for video production for social media channels.”
