Columbia, SC – The BabyNet Central Directory, an online directory of services for children birth to age three with developmental delays or conditions associated with developmental delays is now available through the South Carolina United Way 211 website.

The directory gives families and providers an accelerated pathway to locate services for children with developmental delays and/or disabilities. The directory is also available through the BabyNet website.

According to the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office for Exceptional Children, 100,289 children ages 3 through 21 were served through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) funding in public schools.

BabyNet is an interagency early intervention program for infants and toddlers birth to three years of age with developmental delays, or conditions associated with developmental delays. BabyNet services are provided at no cost to the family, and all eligible children receive service coordination. The amount and type of additional services vary based on the child’s individual needs and the family’s concerns and priorities. Some examples of services that may be identified are special instruction, speech therapy, physical therapy, assistive technology, nutrition, transportation, vision services, and more.

The BabyNet Central Directory, which features 15 different search options and an instructional guide for the use of the directory, contains an introduction to BabyNet along with information on how to make a referral.

Family Connection of South Carolina will continue to add provider information to the BabyNet Central Directory. Providers who wish to be added to the directory may contact Crystal Ray at Family Connection by emailing crystalray@familyconnectionsc.org or calling 803.252.0914.

The BabyNet Central Directory is online at http://www.sc211.org/index.php?option=com_babynet.

BabyNet is funded through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) Part C, and is managed by South Carolina First Steps to School Readiness.
Anyone can refer a child to BabyNet including parents, doctors, caregivers, neighbors, or friends. Once referred, a Service Coordinator will contact the family and address any questions or concerns. If the family is interested, a screening and/or  evaluation will be conducted.
