Renowned Franchise Industry Leader Joins AM Conservation Group, Inc. as CEO

Former Mr. Handyman CEO Todd Recknagel Transitions into Energy Conservation Space

CHARLESTON, S.C.– (June 11, 2012) – AM Conservation Group, Inc., one of the nation’s largest producers of water & energy conservation products, has named Todd Recknagel, formerly the CEO and President of international franchisor Mr. Handyman, as its new CEO to spearhead strategic growth initiatives for the 23-year-old company.

AM Conservation Group develops, manufactures and distributes professional-grade products for the conservation industry, including energy efficient lighting, insulation products, water saving showerheads, faucet aerators and toilet tank devices. Since its inception in 1989, AM Conservation Group has supplied some of the largest and most successful conservation programs in U.S. history with utility companies, cities, and municipalities. In addition, AM Conservation Group has recently started distributing some of its products to well-known retail chains around the country. Recknagel is taking over the leadership role in the company from its original founder, Paul Cutler.

“As the nation increasingly becomes more energy-conscious, I saw tremendous opportunity to join an industry leader in energy conservation at an ideal time,” Recknagel said. “AM Conservation Group has helped supply some of the largest conservation programs in the nation through strategic partnerships with utility companies, and I plan to continue on that path, as well as expand the presence of our products in the retail space.”

Prior to joining AM Conservation Group, Recknagel most recently served as CEO and President of Mr. Handyman International, where he continues to serve as a partner and board member.  In his time with Mr. Handyman, Recknagel increased system-wide sales more than 400 percent and led the brand to open more than 260 franchise locations in the United States, while developing the franchise system internationally in Canada, United Kingdom and Ireland.

Recknagel, a former Investment Banker also serves on the Board of Directors of the International Franchise Association (IFA), chaired the IFA Membership Committee and is an active partner with the investment firm Trivest in several transactions.  Recknagel also served as the Chairman of the Sub Franchisor Advisory Council for Blimpie International.

Troy Templeton, managing partner of Trivest, the private equity group that has majority ownership in AM Conservation Group, said Recknagel’s leadership experience in a well-known consumer home improvement company made him an ideal fit for the post.

“As conservation efforts continue to be top-of-mind for both households and businesses across the nation, we know Todd will become a vital part of our growth,” Templeton said. “Now, more than ever, consumers and utilities are looking for ways to reduce electricity consumption, water usage, while saving on utility bills. Todd’s vast experience will help our company grow at this vital time in our society.”

Recknagel earned his MBA in finance at The Eli Broad School of Business at Michigan State University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Economics from Hope College.  He has his Certified Franchise Executive (CFE) designation from IFA Educational Foundation.
