Boston, MA, June 11, 2012 – Fish & Richardson announced today that both its Patent Prosecution and Patent Litigation practices received a top Tier 1 national ranking from The Legal 500 guide to the most preeminent U.S. law firms.  Fish also received top national rankings for its Patent Litigation/International Trade Commission (ITC) and Copyright practices.

According to The Legal 500, Fish’s Tier 1 Patent Prosecution practice “is a leading player in patent prosecution, and has amassed an impressive client base including numerous global leaders in industries such as information technology, pharmaceuticals and financial services.”  Fish’s practice “is full-service, undertaking portfolio management for its global clients, opinions and strategic counseling mandates and a busy re-examination practice.”  In addition to recognizing “the hugely experienced” Charles Hieken, The Legal 500 highlighted Richard Anderson, Jeffrey Barclay, and Spencer Patterson from the firm’s patent group.

Fish’s Tier 1 Patent Litigation practice “undertakes a high volume of cases, and acts for many leading names across a range of industry sectors.”  IP litigators are “very responsive” and “have a deep stable of talent and work hard to bill at an appropriate level.”  The Legal 500 singled out Fish attorneys Juanita Brooks, who has “a great rapport with judges and is devastatingly good on cross examination,” Jonathan Singer, who is a “solid trial litigator and fine appellate lawyer” and William Marsden, who is “an excellent resource in Wilmington courts.”  Frank Scherkenbach was recognized as an “experienced trial lawyer,” Howard Pollack was noted for his “technical expertise in electronics,” and Douglas McCann was highly “recommended.”

Fish’s ITC practice “is well known for handling a number of high-profile investigations relating to the high-tech and semiconductor industries.”  Ruffin Cordell, who was one of only seven attorneys in the country named to the elite “Leading ITC Lawyers” list, “remains a prominent figure” and Michael McKeon was profiled for his “extensive trial experience.”  Fish attorneys Ahmed Davis and Richard Sterba were also mentioned for their impressive ITC work.

Fish’s Copyright practice was commended for its advice on “registration, enforcement and licensing matters,” and “copyright litigation expertise.”  Copyright group co-chair Joel Leviton was noted for his focus on “fair use and licensing,” along with litigator Gregory Madera.

The Legal 500 guides, which have been published for over 20 years, review the strengths of law firms and provide research and law firm rankings to help clients identify the best law firm for the job.  Research includes in-depth interviews with law firm clients and lawyers across the country.  Inclusion in The Legal 500 is based solely on merit and the series is widely regarded as offering the definitive judgment of law firm capabilities.
