CLEVELAND, March 1, 2012 – Ganeden Biotech announces research results demonstrating that its patented probiotic (beneficial bacteria) derived, cosmeceutical ingredient, Bonicel, improves skin hydration, elasticity, under eye puffiness and reduces fine lines and wrinkles in humans.
The double blind, placebo-controlled study, conducted on female subjects ages 35 to 60, found dramatic results in reducing signs of aging. In subjects at 4 weeks, Bonicel increased skin hydration by 16 percent, skin elasticity by 11 percent, and decreased fine lines and wrinkles in 50 percent of respondents.
In addition to results measured clinically by Cutometer and silicone replica, subjects’ self reports found that 75 percent reported, “The dark circles under my eyes are less visible” and 75 percent of the treatment group reported, “The skin around my eyes feels more moisturized.”
Although probiotic skin products have entered the market, few, if any, have research data to back their claims. “Over the years we have watched companies launch so-called probiotic topical products without data supporting safety or efficacy,” said Sean Farmer, Ganeden’s founder and Chief Science Officer. “With the launch of Bonicel we can make use of our IP and years of experience in this space to help cosmetic manufacturers produce quality, effective products.”
Bonicel can be used in lotions, creams, gels, powders, scrubs, masks and cleansers. Unlike most probiotic ingredients used in topical formulations, including Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, Bonicel is easy to include in formulations, is naturally derived from the well-documented probiotic strain GanedenBC30® (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086).
“We are excited to add Bonicel to our branded ingredient portfolio. We have been watching the cosmeceutical space for several years and think the time is right to introduce a scientifically backed, patented and branded ingredient into this important market,” said Michael Bush, Vice President of Business Development.
Bonicel is produced naturally during the fermentation process of GanedenBC30, the company’s proprietary probiotic strain. Ganeden utilizes proprietary processes to optimize the metabolic activity of the fermenting organism producing maximum amounts of naturally derived L+ Lactic acid, bacteriocins, hydrogen peroxide, enzymes and other metabolites.
