Guelph Hydro Inc. is proud to announce that its first Sustainability Report was honoured with a Pinnacle Award for excellence in communications by the Canadian Public Relations Society – Hamilton Chapter at their annual awards dinner last night.
Guelph Hydro’s inaugural Sustainability Report showcases the company’s evolving strategy to integrate sustainable business practices into its day-to-day operations as well as its plans for sustainable energy projects (solar energy, district energy, combined heat and power, and biogas) that support Ontario’s Green Energy and Economy Act and Guelph’s Community Energy Initiative.
With the publication of the Guelph Hydro Inc. 2010 Sustainability Report, Guelph Hydro Inc. became not only one of the first electrical utilities in Ontario to publish a sustainability report, but also one of only a small number of utilities around the world to measure performance against the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the most widely used standardized framework in the world for reporting an organization’s environmental, social and economic performance. “At Guelph Hydro, we have a long-standing reputation for excellence in safety, reliability, customer service, innovation as well as financial management. We are thrilled to be able to add excellence in communications in the field of sustainability to the list,” says Barry Chuddy, Chief Executive Officer of Guelph Hydro Inc. “Our intention in publishing our first Sustainability Report was to highlight our sustainability efforts and produce a best-practice document that could serve as a model for other businesses in our community interested in pursuing sustainable business practices. Receiving the Pinnacle Award firmly establishes Guelph Hydro as a leader in sustainability within our community and within the energy industry in Ontario.”
