Gulf Coast Economy: Ready 4 Takeoff Coalition Statement on Administration’s Gulf Coast Recovery Plan

Ready 4Takeoff Coalition Agrees: “America needs the Gulf”

New Orleans, LA – Today, Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced a long-term recovery plan for the Gulf Coast region that was commissioned by President Barack Obama. In response to the plan, which includes continuation of the important economic recovery work, Ready 4 Takeoff coalition member Ewell Smith, executive director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board, released the following statement:

"Today, Secretary Mabus rightly put forth a strong and aggressive Gulf Coast restoration plan that addresses the key economic challenges of our vital region. Undoubtedly, this plan will work in tandem with the efforts of the Gulf Coast Economy: Ready 4 Takeoff Coalition, which shares the mutual goal of creating the economy of the future for the Gulf Coast region.

“Whether it is leveraging the federal government’s purchasing power to boost the market for Gulf Coast seafood, awarding the federal contract to construct the KC-45 Tanker in Mobile, Alabama, or recognizing the infrastructure needs of high speed rail throughout the region, it is clear the federal government can and will play a pivotal role in restoring the Gulf.

"While our coalition certainly welcomes today's news, time is of the essence, and we now call on Secretary Mabus to take swift action in implementing his plan.”
