Hendrick Honda of Charleston and the entire Hendrick Auto Group is asking the public to help give the local community a fresh start in 2012 with the “Charleston Drive for Hunger” campaign Jan. 2 – 11.

Hendrick AG Charleston will make cash donations to The Lowcountry Food Bank and East Cooper Community Outreach in an effort to help re-stock food and supplies that area depleted during the holidays.

“Recent studies show our region’s hunger and poverty needs are making huge demands on local care-giving organizations,” said Brad Davis, Executive General Manager of Rick Hendrick Imports. “Supplies traditionally run low immediately after the holidays and this is a great way to help jump start community giving in 2012.”

The public is encouraged to participate by clicking “Like” on Facebook / Charleston Drive. Hendrick AG Charleston will donate $1 for each “Like” and has set a donation goal of $8,000 to be shared by the two community groups.

The Charleston Drive “Like” also makes two pledges by participants: to volunteer / give back to your community in 2012 and to practice safe driving habits: obey speed limits, don’t drink and drive and don’t text and drive.

“Employees at each dealership are committed to taking community stewardship to a whole new level in our hometowns of the Lowcountry,” said Patrick Bachrodt, General Manager of Rick Hendrick Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep on Savannah Hwy. “We want to engage, educate and create enthusiasm for local causes by asking citizens to join with us to support our community.”

He added that the campaign is benefitting two well-deserving local organizations.

The Lowcountry Food Bank (www.lowcountryfoodbank.org) was founded in 1983 and serves 320 member agencies to fight hunger in 10 counties of coastal South Carolina. East Cooper Community Outreach (www.eccocharleston.org) provides safety net services for low-income families and those in need while empowering them to create a better future for themselves. ECCO provides emergency assistance, food, clothing, essential medical services and much more to address poverty in our region.

The public is encouraged to visit Facebook / Charleston Drive to follow Hendrick Charleston programs year-round.
