(Maricopa, Ariz.) – On Thursday, March 29 at 4:30 p.m. the Maricopa Unified School District's (MUSD) Maricopa High School (MHS) will be hosting the grand opening of their Performing Arts Center.
“As the largest venue of its kind in Maricopa, this grand opening is not just for our students, staff and parents, but for the entire Maricopa community,” said MHS Principal June Celaya. “The space is open for public use, in addition to performances being held by schools throughout the District, and we’re inviting the community to celebrate the opening of this state of the art facility.”
The recently completed Center, which is a focal point on the MHS campus, will be showcasing everything from performance art and oil paintings to graphic design and music from MHS students. Guests are invited to tour the space beginning at 4:30 p.m., which will be followed by performances, including by Native American Tribal Dancers, and a ribbon cutting at 6:30 p.m. Refreshments will also be provided by MHS culinary students.
The 35,000 square-foot building took a year to complete and cost $8.2 million, with an additional $4 million to supply seating for 750 people and technical equipment, including stage lighting and an audio system.
“From construction to completion this has been an amazing project to see come to fruition,” said MUSD Deputy Superintendent Ember Conley. “Not only is the center a new avenue of education for our students, but it’s also become a pillar of our community and a place for residents to come together.”
