The Rio Grand Scenic Railroad recently made a variety of improvements at Fir Station, the location of all of its concerts. "Our live concerts bring in music lovers and train enthusiasts from around the country, and we want this experience to shine in their memories for years to come," said Matt Abbey, general manager of the Rio Grande Scenic Railroad. "To help make each concertgoer's day a little more special, we are always working to improve services on board the trains and at our concert site."
Improvements include refurbished rail cars and additional levels of service such as Adventure Class, Coach Class, Dome Class and Club Car tickets. Additionally, improvements to the restroom facilities and updates to the mountain top shelter have been made. Recreational opportunities have also been added to the site including volleyball, horseshoes and an opportunity for mountain bikers to descend the mountain by bike. From La Veta, bikers can ride the train to the concert station with their bikes, then head home on their own wheels via forest service trails. Other improvements will continue throughout 2011 and into 2012.
Each weekend through Sept. 25, the historic railroad has scheduled excursions taking passengers to Fir Station in the pristine Spanish Peaks, where artists perform in an amphitheater powered completely by wind and solar energy. Traditional chuck wagon lunches are available at the concert site, and food is also available on the train.
The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad depot is located at 610 State Ave., Alamosa, Colo. To purchase tickets or for more information call 877.726.RAIL or visit www.riograndescenicrailroad.com, Facebook or Twitter.
