Southern Cross Selects JDSU to Ensure Quality 10G, 40G and 100G Networks

Milpitas, Calif., January 12, 2012 — JDSU announced today that Southern Cross Cable Network selected JDSU’s T-BERD/MTS-8000 V2 40 G/100 G Transport Module  to help ensure the non-interrupted delivery of high-bandwidth services over its high-speed submarine, trans-Pacific cable infrastructure. The new solution is part of JDSU’s field-proven T-BERD/MTS-8000 product line used by major telecommunication operators worldwide.

Southern Cross Cable Network is using the JDSU T-BERD/MTS-8000 V2 to support its network upgrade from 10G to 40G − and eventually to 100G − to meet the growing demand for high-bandwidth services and applications. The service provider operates the main Internet channel between Australia, New Zealand and the United States.

“The JDSU solution provides the functionality we require as we continue our infrastructure upgrade, ensuring our system will support the quality delivery of higher bandwidth services that our customers demand,” said Brian Smith, engineering services manager, Southern Cross Cable Network.

By using JDSU’s T-BERD/MTS-8000 V2 for field tests such as installation, troubleshooting and maintenance, Southern Cross technicians will have remote visibility of the traffic on their 40G network. The new 40G/100G transport module also dramatically speeds up identification of network problems and quickly relays critical data to the Southern Cross Network Operations Center in Auckland, New Zealand, for analysis and resolution.

Additionally, JDSU’s T-BERD/MTS-8000 V2 provides Southern Cross a seamless way to comply with Optical Transport Network standards, increasing the functionality of its optical network.
