Fire restrictions in effect in Shoshone National Forest


The US Forest Service brought in information this morning regarding Fire Restrictions.

NO campfires, wood stoves or briquette fires allowed except within agency approved fire grates at designated recreation sites. Liquified and bottle gas stoves and heaters or a fully enclosed (sheepherder type) stove with a ¼ inch spark arrester type screen may be used.

NO operating a chainsaw without a USDA or SAE approved spark arrester properly installed and in effective working order. Shovel and 8 ounce fire extinguisher required.

NO smoking allowed except within an enclosed vehicle or building, developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable material.

NO welding or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame or arc except in cleared areas of at least 10 feet in radius and with a chemical pressurized fire extinguisher of not less than 8 ounce capacity. Using an explosive requiring fuse blasting caps is also prohibited.
