(Boulder, Colo.) –La Sportiva North America, makers of the world’s finest mountain products, introduces the Batura 2.0 GTX, a lightweight, waterproof, breathable boot for winter mountaineering and ice climbing. The Batura 2.0 GTX features two layers of GORE-TEX® brand technology optimized specifically for demanding alpine mountaineering.

“The Batura 2.0 GTX is a game changer for mountaineering boots,” states Jonathan Lantz, president of La Sportiva North America. “Our collaboration with W. L Gore & Associates and our testing with top-notch athletes has enabled us to create a double boot that is warm, walks well, and is remarkably lightweight. The Batura 2.0 GTX will quickly become the first choice for serious alpinists.” Ultralight insulating honeycomb carbon material is used in the midsole to improve rigidity. By drastically reducing the weight of the boot compared to traditional winter mountaineering boots, the Batura 2.0 GTX walks well and reduces the load on the foot with each step.

The Batura 2.0 GTX is the first boot combining a GORE-TEX® lined inner boot with an integrated gaiter using GORE-TEX® footwear stretch laminate, providing protection, comfort and insulation in tough conditions. The boots two-layer system emerged from a multi-year collaboration between Gore and La Sportiva. By incorporating a GORE-TEX® stretch laminate into the outer gaiter and a 4 layer laminate into the inner boot, the Batura 2.0 GTX offers the best combination of durable waterproofness, breathability and insulation.

“Given La Sportiva’s heritage with mountain boots, it was natural that we’d partner with them to create a system that is unmatched in mountain boots, says Marc Peikert, global outdoor footwear product specialist at Gore. “We’re confident that this boot will consistently deliver in the challenging conditions experienced by serious alpinists.  It may very well change the expectations of how mountain boots should perform.”

Along with traditional Gore laboratory testing, the Batura 2.0 GTX was field tested in the Slovenian Alps as well as by mountain guides in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. This extensive testing focused not only on overall boot performance and durability, but also explicitly on climate comfort inside the boot during use.
