In honoring the late Jonny Copp and Micah Dash, the award will support climbers who choose to follow a similar path, both in life and in the mountains. The fund's goal is to assist climbers before, during and after expeditions with financial grants and multimedia instruction to help empower them to share their current and future adventures with a wider audience.
"The Copp-Dash Inspire Award celebrates the spirit that Jonny and Micah shared with many of us," says La Sportiva North American President, Jonathan Lantz. "We will remember their stories as much as the routes they climbed. We hope this award will inspire other climbers to bring back stories of their own, from mountains all over the world, for years to come."
The Copp-Dash Inspire award will provide a pool of $20,000 in grants to North American climbers for expeditions between May 1, 2010, and February 28, 2011. Applications for the award will be accepted from January 1, 2010 to March 31, 2010. Only teams/individuals from North America are eligible and award winners will be announced by April 30, 2010.
Accompanying the announcement of the Copp-Dash Inspire Award at Outdoor Retailer, Sender Films will be presenting "First Ascent: Point of No Return." This special episode of the new National Geographic Adventure series follows Jonny, Micah and videographer Wade Johnson to the unclimbed east face of Mt. Edgar, in western China, which would become their final expedition.
All are invited to join in this special presentation and encouraged to share a beer in honor of our friends, Jonny and Micah, at the La Sportiva booth (#6027) on the second day of Outdoor Retailer, Friday, January 22, at 5pm.
