NDLON Praises Demian Bichir and Chris Weitz for A Better Life

Oscar Nominated Performance Injects Humanity into Ugly Rhetoric

January, 24. 2012. Los Angeles, CA.
In reaction to the Academy nominating Demián Bichir for best leading role for his portrayal of a day laborer and father in the film A Better Life, Pablo Alvarado of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network offered the following statement,

"Bichir's performance in A Better Life achieves the impossible in today's political climate. He portrays the tribulations of a humble undocumented day laborer in a way that makes one recognize his humanity.  While the Republican debates reach new levels of toxicity, A Better Life takes undocumented workers out of the political crosshairs and offers a theme we all can relate to, what any father would do to provide the children he loves with a better life.  On behalf of those parents who wake early every morning to stand on street corners in hopes of bringing home daily bread for our family, we express our gratitude to Bichir and our excitement to see his performance recognized."

NDLON invites people to share how day laborers and immigrant workers have made their lives better by visiting their facebook page or tweeting with the hashtag #ABetterLife. Director Chris Weitz and Actor from the film, Jose Julian, will screen the film at the NDLON National Assembly for an audience of day laborers from across the country in Los Angeles on February 20th.
