‘ELA’ RAISES $28,000 FOR BREAST CANCER CARE WA OVER PAST THREE YEARS

Since November 2009, female employees from The Peard Real Estate Group have raised nearly $30,000 through its Exclusive Ladies Affair (ELA) for Breast Cancer Care WA.

According to Katie Bullied, Marketing & Design Co-ordinator at Peard Real Estate Group, ELA was established to empower, educate and bring women together in a positive and fun way to raise awareness of breast cancer and generate funds for the vital work of the Breast Cancer Care WA.

“The latest ELA fund raising event was held last week when 86 women attended a Gold Class screening of the movie ‘Bridesmaids’. This event raised $11,000 for Breast Cancer Care WA, bringing the total amount raised by ELA for this organisation to $28,000.

“Overall, the evening was a very positive experience for everyone involved. As part of the fund raising event, a ‘hens night’ themed function was held prior to the movie with a live auction and other activities such as a lucky dip and photo booth.

“Our special guest speaker for the evening was Jo Kirker, who moved us with her inspiring story about her personal journey with breast cancer.

“Jo emphasised knowledge of breast cancer she learnt just after being diagnosed – key issues that that most women won’t know, but should know. She also communicated just how thankful she was to Breast Cancer Care WA and their volunteers for all the support she and her family have received.

“During her moving talk, Jo emphasised the importance of breast checks at every age because she was only 44 when diagnosed. Her diagnosis came as quite a shock as there was no history in her family. Many would be surprised to learn that the vast majority of women diagnosed with breast cancer do not actually have a family history of the disease.

“It is estimated that one in nine women in Australia will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime and the funds raised by this function go directly to Breast Cancer Care WA. The charity does amazing work assisting local women and their families affected by the disease by providing emotional, practical and financial support,” she said.

Brodie Fleay, Marketing Manager at Peard Real Estate Group, would like to thank everyone who helped to make the latest fund raising event a huge success.

“In particular, the ladies who attended the event and all the Peard Real Estate staff who co-ordinated the event and volunteered their time on the night.

“We would also like to thank the companies who sponsored the event including Gough Recruitment, Peard Real Estate and National Australia Bank as well as all the generous local businesses who donated prizes,” she added.
