I've heard of the Freshman 15, but Freshman 800???

Most people are aware of the “Freshman 15” as it relates to weight gain in college, but there’s an even higher number which should grab the attention of both parents and students. According to the National Retail Federation’s Back-to-College survey, students will need about $800 freshman year for apparel, electronics, dorm furniture, and food items. Armed with this knowledge, parents with high-school aged children, says the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), should start saving now to lessen the burden of an already expensive venture. A CPA can provide savings tips for parents along with ways to help students to cut their college costs. Contact PICPA to schedule an interview with a CPA in your area.
