New Tax Implications of Cyber Monday

Cyber Monday offers plenty of great online deals, but the tax implications may come back to haunt many participants. Starting with 2011 returns, the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue will begin asking households to include online purchases that didn’t charge sales tax. If filers save their receipts they have the option of paying the actual amount of the uncharged sales tax; otherwise the amount may be estimated based on their income.

  • What is taxable?
  • How would filers pay it?
  • What will the state be looking for on your return?

Experts at the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants can offer insight into how this tax change will affect taxpayers in the spring, and what can be done now to help simplify filing in April.
