Story Pitch: Is Your Child's Day Camp a Tax Deduction?

Day-camp can be an expensive necessity in the summer months. Parents who are gainfully employed (or job hunting) and must put their children in summer camp so they will have adult supervision during the day may be able to write off this expense thanks to a specific section of IRS code. But how can members of your audience claim this expense? What criteria do they need to meet and how much can they expect to receive back if they can claim the credit? Members of the Pennsylvania Institute of Public Accountants (PICPA) can answer these questions and discuss other tax credits parents might be able to claim, such as the Child Tax Credit, the Child and Dependent Care Credit, and Education Credits.
