Brands Must Incorporate Social Media Elements into Marketing Strategies over the Christmas Period

With Christmas fast approaching, brands must prepare for the festive period with social media integration

As online shopping becomes increasingly popular in the run up to Christmas, tech PR agency Punch Communications is advising brands to integrate social media activities into their marketing strategies to increase visibility and revenue over the festive period.

In recent years online shopping continuing to prove a popular alternative to shopping on the high street. Monday 28th November, dubbed ‘Cyber Monday’, saw an estimated £439 million spent via Visa cards alone according to a report from Visa – a 14 percent increase on figures from the same day last year. With online shopping clearly proving so popular, it’s important brands look to integrate social media profiles to captivate a growing prospective online audience.

Social platforms have become increasingly popular in recent years, and are currently one of the leading uses of people’s time spent online, which as such has led to a large number of brands looking to exploit these platforms to encourage growth. Brands must look to devise a marketing strategy aimed to entice prospective customers during the run up to Christmas, encouraging them to interact with their brand and thereby advertising their presence to a user’s online friends.

Social media may already be one of the leading uses of online time, but with so many people due to have time off over the Christmas period, use of these platforms is expected to grow even further. With the social space likely to prove very busy during this time, with numerous brands vying against each other for the attention of social media users, brands must do as much as possible to increase their appeal and stand out from the crowd. Integration of an commerce store, for example, allows a user to shop without leaving the social platform, whilst inclusion of a social plug-in on a brand’s website allows visitors access to the brand’s social media profile without being redirected from the brand’s site. There are also a number of Facebook applications which encourage shopping on the platform, the most recent of which being shopcade.com.

Pete Goold, managing director of Punch Communications, said: “Integration of social platforms is vital over the Christmas period. With consumers looking to spend an increased amount of time online over the coming month – whether for shopping or browsing – it is imperative brands understand the important of online promotion and use social platforms to increase visibility where possible.”
