Eduardo Lucero, red-carpet designer to the stars, is on a mission to nurture the next generation of tastemakers from the rich student pool at Woodbury University, located in the heart of the Los Angeles area entertainment industry. Lucero’s connection to Woodbury is through the school’s new Fashion Chair, Kathryn Hagen. Hagen, author and leading educator in illustration and design, met the multi-talented Lucero when he was her student, over twenty years ago. “Kathryn has been a great influence on my work and in my life,” Lucero said in a recent interview. “When she shared her vision to create the best fashion school in the country and invited me to be the Senior Design Mentor to her students, I said ‘I’m there.”
“The Woodbury School of Fashion Design is so honored to have Eduardo helping our students to develop their talent,” commented Hagen. “They are learning from a contemporary master of style and it has been exciting to see them blossom under his tutelage. “
The public will be able to enjoy undergrad and senior collections at the 48th Annual Fashion Show at the famed Millennium Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 28, 2012. The theme, “Sampling: A Creative Mash-up of Music and Fashion”, encourages students to draw inspiration from their favorite music. “We are looking forward to this showcase that puts future trendsetters literally center stage,” stated Dr. Edward Clift, Dean of the School of Media, Culture and Design. “We are extremely fortunate to have Kathryn and her “dream team”, instructors like Eduardo Lucero and Jared Gold, as part of our Woodbury faculty.”
Eduardo Lucero was born in the Mexican state of Durango and moved to Plano, Illinois at the age of seven. After graduating high school, Lucero moved to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for art and fashion. In 1994, he launched his high-end womenswear collection and subsequently won the Rising Star Award that recognizes the West Coast's most promising designers. As a leader in the industry, he was also instrumental in bringing Fashion Week to LA. His self-named retail store was a landmark on Beverly Boulevard for over fifteen years.
Lucero’s design philosophy centers on accentuating a woman’s best features. He explains, "In order to dress a woman, you must understand her sensibilities, strengths and aspirations." Because of his intrinsic sense of feminine glamour, Lucero has become a favorite of many well-known actresses such as Eva Longoria, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Cameron Diaz, Janet Jackson, Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, Daisy Fuentes, Alicia Silverstone, Carmen Electra, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Lopez, Rosario Dawson, Tori Spelling, Vanessa Williams and Vivica A. Fox.
Over the years, Lucero has been involved with numerous runway shows and gala events. He has presented his collections in Los Angeles Fashion Week, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, Gen Art Chicago, and in the Asia Pacific Young Fashion Designers Show in Hong Kong. Even with his A-List clients and global recognition, Lucero confesses that his joy goes beyond designing clothes. “It’s really about creating something that transforms a person’s sense of self and witnessing how excited they are to enter that amazing, undiscovered space.”
