Make the Move to BandPage on Facebook - Listen, Share, Experience

RootMusic releases new commercial and announces funding

San Francisco/January 5th, 2011 - It's time for musicians to make the move. RootMusic is welcoming musicians everywhere to BandPage, the new home for musicians on Facebook. RootMusic recently secured $2.3 million from Mohr Davidow Ventures with David Feinleib. RootMusic plans on using the funds to grow their team and expand their current product offerings to be the solution for music on Facebook. Larry Marcus, an early investor in both Pandora and SoundHound, is also an angel investor and on the Board of RootMusic.

"There are a lot of exciting things happening in the music industry today," said David Feinleib, Mohr Davidow General Partner. "RootMusic is at the forefront of music technology. We look forward to a long partnership with RootMusic and are excited about how its new technologies will improve the way musicians do business online."

With 12.7 million monthly active users, BandPage is now the #1 entertainment and music app on Facebook and the 17th largest overall app. BandPage is becoming the answer for music on Facebook. Artists like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Grateful Dead, as well as 60,000 local, regional and national musicians around the world are now using BandPage. It allows them to represent themselves professionally on the largest social network in the world.

The change in the way Facebook and music work together is shown by RootMusic's new commercial, starring a San Francisco band, OONA. It's an insight into how musicians can use BandPage to reach their fans on Facebook, and you can watch it here. Another good video that shows how BandPage works can also be found here.

RootMusic recently kicked off a bold new campaign that is sparking musicians to "Make the Move" to Facebook. RootMusic is paving the way for musicians who are frustrated with having to update outdated sites. From the RootMusic homepage, musicians can add an "I made the move to BandPage on Facebook" banner to any of their other sites, linking fans back to the BandPage. Watch the video here.

Both Lil Wayne and Avril Lavigne have spear headed music release campaigns via BandPage on Facebook. On December 14th, Lil Wayne released `6 Foot 7 Foot' exclusively on the BandPage one day before it was available for purchase on iTunes. At midnight on January 1st, Avril Lavigne offered an exclusive free download of her new single "What the Hell" to her fans on Facebook for 48 hours.

"We wanted to give something cool to Lil Wayne's 18 million Facebook fans in anticipation of Tha Carter IV. BandPage made it easy for us to get his new single '6 Foot 7 Foot' into his fans' hands. We saw over half million plays within a few days. We saw a noticeable increase in daily new "Likes" after installing the BandPage tab and allowing fans to hear the track right in their news feed was huge for us," said Mazy Kazerooni, Lil Wayne's Digital Manager.

"Musicians have realized that all their fans are on Facebook; it's simply where the music community needs to have a strong presence. So we wanted to help find that solution, and we have done so with BandPage, all while getting positive feedback from musicians around the world, local to national acts," said J Sider, CEO of RootMusic. "Avril Lavigne and Lil Wayne's exclusive releases on BandPage is indicative of the change in the way music is shared and consumed on social networks."

Given these accomplishments, RootMusic is honored to be included in the curriculum for Berkleemusic.com, the online extension of Berklee College of Music. "I think Root Music is a great addition to any musician's tool kit, particularly a musician that is interested in marketing themselves online," said Mike King, course author and instructor for Berkleemusic.com. "It's a really crowded world when it comes to marketing service companies, and I'm excited to partner with one that is truly adding value to the musical ecosystem."

BandPage is free or you can upgrade to BandPage Plus for $1.99 a month, which allows you to customize the BandPage without having to know any HTML or code. BandPage is perfect for a musician at any stage of their career. "We believe musicians should be able to represent themselves professionally on Facebook, and wanted to make an affordable solution that would make that possible," said J Sider. "It's time for every musician to have an overall presence on Facebook."
