Rugo Stone LLC

Rugo Stone, LLC, has won awards for the excellence of its granite and marble work in the Mid-Atlantic region. The firm’s founder, Brett S. Rugo, first worked in the granite industry as a 15-year-old, at a marble shop in Barre, Vermont. After completing college, he worked for Moliterno Stone in Boston. He founded Rugo Stone, LLC, in 1996, with the help of Jim Ternent, a master stonemason.

At its Lorton, Virginia, headquarters, Rugo Stone, LLC, maintains a 12,000-square-foot fabrication facility. The space has allowed the firm to undertake projects like the visitors center at the Mount Vernon historic site and the facade of the Embassy of Nigeria in Washington, D.C. The firm's saws can cut through 18 inches of stone, and the facility can process 100 square feet of stone every hour. In order to protect its workers and the environment, the firm combines closed-loop water recycling with a 100% wet fabrication shop. This conserves water while keeping particles out of the air.

Rugo Stone, LLC, produces architectural features for the residential, commercial, liturgical, and government sectors. The firm has completed award-winning projects for the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Duke Divinity School, the Commodore Uriah P. Levy Center at the United States Naval Academy, and Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral. Residential applications include countertops, shower stalls, facades, and landscaping designs. The firm has also designed and installed granite features for corporate lobbies and government buildings.

In addition to its work with new construction, Rugo Stone, LLC, participates in restoration projects. The company employs skilled carvers to restore historic altars, fonts, pulpits, and statues. Its hand carvers also create original sculptures, both in relief and in the round.
