FDA Issues Warning on Illegal X-Ray Units Sold Online

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning on illegal X-ray units that are sold online because the products may pose health hazards to both patients and users.

According to MassDevice, some of the hand-held X-ray units that are sold to dental health providers have not been cleared by the FDA.

"Health care professionals using these devices should verify they are purchasing and using those that have been reviewed and tested to meet FDA's standards," said Steve Silverman, director of the Office of Compliance in the FDA's Center for Devices & Radiological Health.

The agency warned healthcare professionals to check for FDA labels onX-ray devices and find out if the devices have gone through the proper channels for the U.S. Market by checking the FDA’s clearance database.

There have been no reports of injury associated with the recall and the FDA is currently investigating the seriousness of the issue.
