Two Elder Abuse Cases Center on St. Louis Nursing Home

A St. Louis area nursing home is the focus of a criminal investigation after the revelation of two potential elder abuse cases in which patients were allegedly mistreated and required medical care at the hospital.

The investigation into St. James Place, a St. Louis County nursing home, was launched earlier this week after the daughter of an 82-year-old patient at the facility called police when she noticed deep bruises on her mother’s body. The elderly woman ended up being transported to a hospital where she required care for two days.

Soon after the revelation of that potential nursing home abuse case, Gail Drmacich came forward with claims that her 68-year-old mother-in-law who is also a patient at St. James suffered negligent care and neglect that led to serious injuries that required medical care. After coming to visit her mother-in-law, who was at the facility while she recovered from a fractured elbow, Drmacich was shocked to discover that the affected arm was turning green.

Even after informing nursing home staff that hospital care was needed, Drmacich said that staff waited for two hours before finally calling an ambulance, KMOV reported.

“This is more neglect, I would say more neglect,” Drmacich added. “She’s got bruises on her, could be from a fall I can’t tell you.”
