Actress BROOKE BUTLER Brings Grit and Power in Season Two of Jason Bateman’s Netflix Series ‘OZARK’
LOS ANGELES (September 10, 2018) – Actress Brooke Butler (All Cheerleaders Die, Fox’s The Resident) delivers a gritty performance in flashbacks of the delightfully twisted, drug dealing Darlene Snell in Season Two of Jason Batemans’s critically-acclaimed original NETFLIX series, OZARK.
Last season, Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) emerged a deliciously evil family matriarch with a killer disposition. In the new season, Butler emerges as a Young Darlene Snell during flashbacks that reveal just how far she’ll go to get what she wants, including her husband.
Butler is already receiving high praise for her early depiction of the ruthless criminal. The New York Post’s Decider.com touting, “That depth also translates to Darlene’s past. Season 2’s ‘The Badger’ shows how Darlene first met her later husband Jacob (Peter Mullan). Portrayed by Brooke Butler who perfectly captures the character’s intensity, young Darlene interrupts Jacob’s date to bluntly tell him the two ways his life can go.”
Butler was excited at the opportunity to dive into this darkly intense character, adding “I understand Darlene more than any role I’ve had before. She’s closer to my truth than many of the ingénue roles I’m typically cast in. It’s the path I’d like my career to go. More than anything it was important for me to do justice to the incredibly talented Lisa Emery’s Darlene, and her relationship with Jacob. I studied her every inflection and movement from Season One until I felt I had her essence. I wanted to show Darlene’s free spirited hope and love for Jacob before darkness overcame.” Butler also gives kudos to director Ben Semanoff for trusting her choices and creating a set environment where talent can flourish.
Audiences will recognize Butler from her breakout role starring as the flesh-eating cheerleader ‘Tracy Bingham’ in the fan-favorite, All Cheerleaders Die, currently a Top 5 on Netflix. After premiering at TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival) it has quickly becoming a a cult classic in the world of dark comedies. The role was a natural fit for this talented beauty, who not only earned a degree in Dramatic Arts from The University of Southern California, but was also nominated as Top 20 cheerleaders in the nation during her reign as a USC Cheerleader. Butler went on to gain attention in theaters starring opposite Todd Lowe (True Blood) in the haunted house tale, The Remains.
In addition, Butler has proven a standout in several television movies, including alongside Jamie Kennedy and Mitchel Musso in The Sand, the controversial biopic of Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina, and opposite Emmy winner Natalia Livingston and Baywatch alum David Chokachi in Cyber Case among others. Her silver screen credits also include a recent appearance on FOX’s medical drama The Resident, and roles on Lee Daniels’ Star with Queen Latifa, Gabrielle Union’s BET show Being Mary Jane, and the CBS Saturday series The Inspectors. She is currently filming the pilot Queen Fur for Showtime where she will be playing Kerry Butler, the reigning Miss Queen Fur singing Italian Opera and dancing her heart out.
Butler was selected as one of Maxim’s ‘The Hot 10’ actresses to watch and has graced the covers and press pages of numerous outlets, such as The Hollywood Reporter, PerezHilton, Deadline, io9, JoBlo, Fearnet, Swoop Mag, Bloody Disgusting, Dread Central and more.
Butler is represented by HRi Talent (Los Angeles), AMT (Atlanta) and Zero Gravity Management.
