The production is comprised of fellow Anthony Meindl Actors Workshop (AMAW) members Derek Underwood and Justin Loyal, who co-produce and star alongside Isidora Goreshter. The show is directed by rising talent Lindsay Frame, who is currently gaining rave reviews for her “delightful” take on “THE LAUGHING COW.”
In one unbroken period of real-time, “TAPE” reunites three characters to explore their differing perspectives of past events. Set in a motel room in Lansing, Michigan, Vince, an outgoing drug dealer/volunteer firefighter, is in town to support his old high school best friend and aspiring filmmaker Jon, when Jon’s new film gains entry into the local film festival. Over the course of the evening, Vince finally gets Jon to admit that ten years ago he date-raped Amy Randall, a girl whom they both dated in high school. The plot takes a turn when Vince reveals that he has taped their entire conversation and invited Amy to have dinner with them that night. The tension continues to build when Amy reveals her perspective of the sexual encounter differs from what the men were expecting. Beneath its suspenseful, high-stakes surface, “TAPE” examines questions of motive, memory, truth, and perception.
Underwood, who is also producing the production, is excited by their fresh take on this thought provoking play, commenting “the way we work at AMAW, which is moment-to-moment, allows the truth to move things forward. This production is going to be special because of how unbelievably real the performances feel. Additionally, director Lindsay Frame’s incredible insight creates infinite openings for the actors to explore and ultimately raises the level of the story we are trying to tell.”
This new version of “TAPE” is already gaining momentum and support from the public. The production team, Angular Momentum Productions, turned to the popular crowd funding source Kickstarter for financing. With a 14-day deadline and testimonial interviews from Director/Writer/Author/Acting Coach Anthony Meindl and Oddlot Entertainment’s VP of Development James Smith (“Drive,” “The Rabbit Hole,” “Enders Game”), the team surpassed its funding goal and became featured under the “Popular,” “Discover,” and “Staff Picks” sections of the Kickstarter homepage.
