Chicago, IL (May 1, 2012) – Michael Baer, 48, has joined media communications agency Starcom USA as executive vice president/managing director, overseeing the agency’s Hallmark, LEGO, Luxottica and Walgreens businesses. Based out of the agency’s headquarters in Chicago, Baer will join Starcom’s managing board and will report to CEO Lisa Donohue.
“As we continue our evolution into a human experience company, we need to make sure Starcom has the smartest, fastest, most diverse team of players in the business,” said Donohue. “Michael brings a deep experience in the creation of non-traditional communications strategies and we’re excited he is now applying his considerable talents against our clients' business needs and goals."
Prior to this appointment at Starcom, Baer served as SVP/group managing director at Cramer-Krasselt in Chicago where he led the pitch for and managed the Porsche account since 2007, among others. In this role, he managed both the creative and media teams for Porsche and ensured they delivered integrated and non-traditional solutions. Baer also played a leading role on the Heinz and RH Donnelly businesses, while simultaneously driving growth, creativity and integrated thinking across the entire agency.

From 1998 to 2006, Baer was at Lowe & Partners in NYC where he was EVP/managing director on the Unilever account. In his role, he led an extended agency team over six active global brands. While at Lowe, he helped the agency earn many industry awards including a Silver EFFIE and a Lowe Worldwide Grand Prix for best 2004 print campaign.
Prior to Lowe, Baer was at Foote, Cone & Belding in NY from 1991 to 1998, working on accounts including AT&T, Kraft Foods/Nabisco Cereals and Life Savers. Baer started his career at N.W. Ayer in 1987 as a planner for Gillette. He holds a bachelor of arts with distinction from the University of Virginia.
