MINNEAPOLIS (Feb. 7, 2012) –The Super Bowl may be over but football fans nationwide can still cheer on their favorite NFL team through Friday, February 10th in a competition that will ultimately help to feed the hungry in their own communities. The Kick Hunger Challenge® is an online fundraising campaign spearheaded by Taste of the NFL (www.TasteoftheNFL.com) that pits fans from all 32 NFL teams against each other throughout the 2011-12 football season to raise money for Feeding America-related food banks in NFL communities nationwide.
To kick off the Kick Hunger Challenge this past September, the General Mills Foundation committed the first $100,000 donation and challenged fans to match this amount during the football season for a total goal of $200,000. Taste of the NFL reports the winning touchdown is within reach as the Kick Hunger Challenge has already raised $183,000—only $17,000 more is needed!
“It is up to fans to step up and show their support to help their team compete to win the Kick Hunger Challenge and reach our goal which will provide more than 40,000 meals to each of our food bank partners,” said Wayne Kostroski, founder of Taste of the NFL.
Current standings show the Atlanta Falcons are in the lead with $17,750 with the Baltimore Ravens in second place at $13,350. Rounding out the top five include the Chicago Bears at $10,000, Minnesota Vikings at $8,160, and the Pittsburgh Steelers at $4,700.
How the Kick Hunger Challenge Works:
- Fans log on to (www.KickHungerChallenge.com) to make a donation of any amount ($10 and up) in the name of their favorite team. 100% of that donation will be given to the local food bank paired with that team.
- “The Kick Hunger Challenge Champion” will be announced on Feb. 10.
