MINNEAPOLIS (December 8, 2011) – For the second year in a row, stars from TLC’s hit show Cake Boss will be onsite at the Taste of the NFL’s annual fundraising event that rallies the country’s best chefs and NFL greats to support hunger relief. Joey Faugno and Mauro Castano, part of the big Italian family working at the bustling Carlo’s Bakery overseen by real-life Cake Boss Buddy Valastro, will be special guests at the “Party with a Purpose®" on Saturday, February, 4, 2012 at Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana where they will unveil an original cake creation and meet and greet guests.
Faugno, head master baker at Carlo’s Bakery, and Castano, pastry chef and Valstro’s right-hand man, will appear at the Taste of the NFL event alongside a team of chefs from each NFL city who will serve their signature specialties with help from a current or former NFL player. At the 2011 event, the Cake Boss team designed a giant replica of a football field representing the Super Bowl XLV matchup of the Green Bay Packers versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“We’ve had a great experience with the crew from Cake Boss at last year’s event and are thrilled that they will be a part of the Taste ‘family’ again this year,” said Liz Brown, Taste of the NFL Event Director. “Joey and Mauro are such fun and we know they will be a huge hit with our guests. And of course, we can’t wait to see the cake they are creating especially for our Super Bowl event.”
Another recognized food personality who will appear at the event is Ted Allen, the Emmy-award winning host of Chopped on Food Network, who will serve as culinary host for the evening. Allen, who grew up in Carmel, Ind., is well known for his past roles as a judge on Bravo’s Top Chef and Food Network’s Iron Chef America and as the food and wine specialist on the groundbreaking Bravo series Queer Eye.
