MADISON, Wis. (March 23, 2012)– The Wisconsin Department of Tourism and Southwest Airlines today announced a partnership intended to increase awareness and bring more visitors to the Badger State.

In addition to Southwest’s sponsorship at the recently-completed Governor’s Conference on Tourism, the airline is providing the agency with complimentary airline vouchers that will be made available to Wisconsin’s convention and visitor bureaus and chambers for bringing travel writers and meeting planners to the state. For the Department of Tourism, the tickets can also be used to attend trade shows and conferences for state promotional marketing purposes.

“This is another example of how we’re partnering with the private sector to stretch taxpayer dollars and provide greater value-added resources to our statewide visitor bureau and chamber partners,” said Stephanie Klett, secretary of the Department of Tourism. “Southwest has the largest market share at our busiest airport, General Mitchell International in Milwaukee, so this is an opportunity for Southwest to grow along with our tourism economy here in Wisconsin.”

In addition to the airline vouchers, The Department of Tourism will be able to set up a display table at other airports served by Southwest to promote the state. Southwest will be listed as a “Proud Supporter of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism” on the TravelWisconsin.com website.

“Wisconsin is a great state for leisure and business travel and we’re excited about this opportunity to partner with the state’s tourism agency,” said Linda Rutherford, Southwest vice president of communication & strategic outreach.“Both of our organizations have a vested interest in growing the number of visitors to Wisconsin. We applaud the state and its tourism partners for innovative approaches they are taking to market tourism.”
