The 2012 Chinese Opera Festival is to take place in Hong Kong from June 15th to August 5th, with a wide range of performances.

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - May 14th, 2012 - Lovers of traditional Chinese performing arts will be well catered for in Hong Kong this summer when the 2012 Chinese Opera Festival is held.

Commencing on June 15th, the event encompasses ten programmes showcasing different aspects of this unique art form, eventually drawing to a close on August 5th.

This year, the elegant and sophisticated Kunqu performing style will take centre stage via a mentoring programme conducted by the Suzhou Kunqu Opera Theatre, which will teach two classic operas to young actors before staging a final performance.

However, other styles will also be well represented, with leading practitioners of Beijing, Cantonese and Yue opera also set to give various performances, while regional opera will also have a strong presence.

Other events include talks on opera appreciation and history, screenings of related films and themed exhibitions, offering an in-depth celebration of this historic Asian cultural institution.

Performances and shows will take place at a number of venues across Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Kwai Tsing Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall and Ko Shan Theatre.
