From menacing marmosets to giant cactus huggers, the strangest things happen on a gap year

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - March 30th, 2012 - Independent travel and backpacking on your gap year needn’t be all about backpacks, booze and beaches. Sometimes you have to get off the beaten track and head for the strange, the mysterious, and the downright weird world of gap year adventure.

To celebrate all that is extraordinary about volunteering, travelling or working abroad on your year out or summer break, Gapwork.com has published a gallery of some of the freakiest gap year moments taken from its 12 years of helping young people work and travel abroad. With the help of some of the leading gap year placement and volunteering companies, Gapwork’s Facebook page now showcases Elmo the menacing marmoset sitting on someone’s head, a cactus hugger and the world’s weariest kangaroo, among other memorable images, the like of which you don’t normally see in travel brochures.

The point of the photos, apart from sheer entertainment value, is to see which will get the most Facebook Likes, so head to http://www.facebook.com/gapwork and click on the album, where you can browse, like, share and write captions for each picture.

Gapwork.com has over a decade’s expertise in working and volunteering abroad and gap year jobs information, so we’ve seen it all in our time – but these photos really do take the biscuit!
