With this increase of tourists comes an increase in hotel tariffs and getting a room for a reasonable price becomes very challenging.

King James by Thistle (4*)
The best location of any of the hotels listed, right on the doorstep of Princes Street above the popular St James Shopping centre. Apex European Hotel (3*)
The Apex hotel chain have 3 hotels in total within Edinburgh, The European has a fairly central location just outside of Haymarket Railway Station, about a 10 minute walk into Princes Street. There are good facilities in the hotel including a bar and restaurant as well as free Wi-Fi and local calls. (Advance Purchase rooms start at £63, Parking: Free)

MacDonald Holyrood Hotel (4*)
The hotel is situated in the Old Town area of Edinburgh, close to the Royal Mile and walking distance from Princes Street. There are excellent leisure facilities in the Hotel (pool, gym, steam room etc) and for extra luxury the Club Floor offers rooms with extra space and some great views. Abbey Hotel (3*)
The hotel is not far from Leith Walk which has numerous bars and shops and you can also walk to Princes Street in around 10 minutes. The building dates back to 1820 and it still has many lovely original features. (rooms start at £55, Parking: n/a)

Of course if you are traveling on a really tight budget you can always book into one of the many hostels in Edinburgh, a standard dorm room bed goes for as little as £12 per night with many hostels available around the city centre.
