The UDS Service Dogs Team still needs riders to join them and continue the program’s active participation in Dream Ride Lancaster since 2003. Dream Ride Lancaster serves as one of the most significant fundraising events for the Lancaster-based program, which trains and prepares dogs to serve as assistants and companions to people with disabilities.
“The UDS Service Dogs do so much for the people of this community. This is our chance to do our part to ensure this program continues to make a positive impact,” commented Tom Barron, volunteer coordinator for the UDS Service Dogs Dream Ride Team.
In addition to money raised from riders receiving pledges from family and friends, UDS welcomes personal and company pledges to support the fundraising initiative. UDS is proud to have received a $1,000 combined pledge from several local ServPro offices including ServPro of Western Lancaster, ServPro of Penn Del, ServPro of Hershey Swatara, ServPro of Eastern Southeastern Lancaster. Local barbecue company Hess’s Barbecue Catering is donating 500 sandwiches to Dream Ride Lancaster for a post-race picnic.
Dream Ride Lancaster brings together teams riding throughout scenic Lancaster County on behalf of local charities. The ride will begin at the Donegal Middle School in Marietta along Route 441. Volunteers can choose to participate in rides of various lengths, from 10 to 100 miles, with staggering starts beginning as early as sunrise. The UDS service dogs will join UDS volunteers and clients in cheering on participants at the water station positioned on the 62.5 mile course.
