U.S. National Lawn Bowls Team faces Canada in the 'North American Challenge' September 9-11

Milwaukee, WI--From September 9-11, the U.S. National Lawn Bowls Team (Team USA) will face Team Canada in a three-day lawn bowls biennial tournament, the 2010 North American Challenge (NAC).

Teams are comprised of the top ten men and ten women from each country who will bowl-it-out in singles, pairs, triples and fours.

Matches held daily at 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Lake Park Lawn Bowls Club- 3130 East Newberry Blvd, Milwaukee, WI 53211.

Games kickoff with open ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 9. An awards ceremony followed by an international celebration on the greens after the last game on will be held Saturday, September 11.

Players for Team USA- Men and Team USA- Women includes top-ranked members, some of whom have gone on to represent the U.S. internationally in recent 2010 tournaments such as the Tiger Bowls classic in Hong Kong, the China Open in mainland China, and the World Cup Singles in Australia.

Central, the host division for the NAC tournament is also home to one of the youngest competitive players in the country, including 18-year-old Max Cavendar from Milwaukee. Though not yet part of Team USA, Max is an up-and-comer who recently won his first title in division play when he went undefeated to capture the singles crown at the Central Division Open.

In the U.S., there are over 130 clubs and seven regional divisions which maintain their own active tournament schedules based on weather. The World Bowling Board, an international sports federation that represents 52 national authorities in 46 member nations, sanctions the sport in the states and internationally.

Lawn bowls is currently experiencing a renaissance as member countries are actively seeking to recruit younger competitive players, the majority of which are under the age of 40.
