Los Angeles, Calif. — New track ‘Life is Ours’ from up-and-coming progressive house-music producer, Los Angles native, Ben Phillis, known to his growing fan base as VIKTOR, features vocals by the multi-talented Aussie Jodi Phillis, tagged as a “national treasure” by Rolling Stone magazine. The big-room vibe of the mix is colored and completed by the singer’s soft but powerful song styling. Clearly an intuitive pairing – more even than this brother/sister team imagined– separated by a continent, a generation and several musical traditions, ‘Life is Ours’ explodes with amazing force.
“I grew up kind of in awe of my big sister as a kid,” VIKTOR recalls. Phillis was in the chart-topping top Aussie rock/pop band The Clouds and The Dearhunters, released three solo albums and currently writes and arranges with the retro-sounding vocal quartet The Glamma Rays.
“I wanted truly outstanding vocals to give this track special life and knew Jodi’s voice would be perfect. I just sent her the rough mix and asked her to play with it. Her words and singing gave it so many added colors – it put it through the roof for me!”
“I was really excited when I got the music and in just a few days had the vision. My husband, singer/songwriter Tim Oxley, and I recorded the vocals in our studio at home near Sydney, Australia and sent them over to Ben in the states. The reaction here and in Ben’s world of dance music has been great,” said Phillis.
Viktor a.k.a. Benjamin Phillis, has grown up around music all of his life. A Los Angeles native, Phillis grew up listening to his Aussie sister Jodi Phillis’ alternative rock band, “The Clouds.” As Ben got older he started becoming interested in the Los Angeles "Rave" scene as well as clubs and he just fell in love with the music. Ben Phillis is an electro based DJ/Producer who spins electro, dubstep and house. He has appeared at Avalon, The Malibu Inn, Bergamot Station and other West Coast venues.
Jodi Phillis is a singer/songwriter, composer and arranger in a class of her own. She formed the alternative pop/rock group The Clouds in 1989 which went on to garner three Aria nominations, a gold record and numerous visits into the Top 20 Charts. In 1997 Jodi left The Clouds to pursue different musical styles. She has released three critically acclaimed solo albums. In 1999 Jodi joined forces with Tim Oxley in The Dearhunters, and they now make beautiful music together in their band Roger Loves Betty. The couple also compose for the screen.
