An interview with Mr. Xavier Leroi reveals WWL's strong focus on Chinese markets.

Oslo, Norway Wallenius Wilhelmsen Logistics (WWL), the global shipping and logistics provider, has appointed Xavier Leroi as its new Managing Director in China. Mr. Leroi, the former Head of WWL South Africa, is based in Shanghai and is responsible for driving all growth in China.

"The Chinese market has enormous potential, in terms of import and export opportunities, as well as the prospect of developing effective Supply Chain Management (SCM) solutions," said Mr. Leroi. "This market is also extremely challenging and it'll be my job to make sure our customers succeed in China."

Mr. Leroi has more than 15 years of experience with WWL, having served in management roles for the company in Norway, France and South Africa. Below, he answers some questions about his new role, and WWL's ambitions for China.

Q: How does WWL support its customers in China?
"WWL offers a complete factory-to-dealer solution for OEMS manufacturing or selling in China, which includes four major trade lanes ( the Intra-Asia and Oceania trades, along with the routes to and from Europe and the Americas ), as well as a full range of Technical Services and SCM solutions for automakers and manufacturers of construction, agriculture, and other high and heavy equipment.

"Our current activities in China include:
 five offices and 70 employees;
 three Vehicle Processing Centers for processing autos and High & Heavy rolling equipment;
 terminal operations in Shanghai and Tianjin."

Q: What are your top three goals in China?
"We will continue to develop innovative solutions to improve the efficiency of the supply chain in China, while making sure we're tuned into the market and ready to take advantage of new opportunities that arise. Above all, we must ensure the consistent excellence of all our deliveries."

Q: How will these goals be achieved?
"Apart from the pace of change and the size of the country, China has complex regulatory structures and business practices. However, as our operations here, in terms of both the people and the company, are almost 100 per cent Chinese, I believe we're well positioned to stay on top of both regulatory changes and market developments. We will succeed by combining WWL's global quality mindset with all the benefits that our local presence offers us."
