Weidert Group selects Community Clothes Closet, Appleton, as May Hero of the Month

Free clothes closet for local residents to host vintage fashion show fundraiser on May 22

APPLETON, Wis. - Weidert Group, Inc., a full-service marketing communications agency in Appleton, has selected the Community Clothes Closet in Appleton as Hero of the Month for May 2011.

The mission of the Community Clothes Closet is to provide free clothing to financially challenged individuals and families. By providing families with necessary clothing, they can then spend their limited income on other necessities such as food, shelter and childcare.

In 2000, the Community Clothes Closet gave away 185,000 items and in 2009 they gave away 405,000 items, showing the growing need for the non-profit's support in the fox valley community.

How You Can Help
Since the organization runs on an annual budget of only $167,000 per year, they are in desperate need of clothing and monetary donations from the community. Urgently needed items include children's clothing, men's clothing, plus size clothing, shoes, linens, children's books and stuffed animals. View a complete list here.

On Sunday, May 22, 2011, the Community Clothes Closet is hosting the Vintage Fashion Show at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in downtown Appleton, in order to raise funds. The event will feature clothing from the 1940s through the 1980s that will be modeled and sold. There will also be door prizes, free refreshments and a silent auction, where attendees will have the chance to bid on clothing donated by celebrities.

The organization is looking for people to donate clothing and memorabilia from these eras that can be used for the fashion show.

Tickets cost $15 each and can be purchased at the Community Clothes Closet or at all Gunderson Cleaners' locations.
