CINCINNATI – April 4, 2012 – Western & Southern Financial Group (Western & Southern) is joining forces with the Insured Retirement Institute (IRI) to promote retirement planning during National Retirement Planning Week® 2012 (NRPW) from April 9 to 13.
“IRI reported last year that a quarter of all Baby Boomers have little to no confidence in their ability to meet their retirement goals,” said Mark E. Caner, president, W&S Financial Group Distributors (W&S Financial Distributors), the wholesale distributor of annuities and life insurance from Western & Southern member companies. “This finding is a source of concern for consumers and financial representatives alike. But there is hope, and it all begins with creating a retirement plan.”
The National Retirement Planning Coalition – a group of prominent financial industry and advocacy organizations spearheaded by IRI – has organized NRPW. This initiative is a national effort to raise awareness among Americans and their financial representatives about the need for comprehensive retirement planning.
To support the efforts of the coalition, Western & Southern will ramp up its activities in social media to provide more retirement planning information. Prominently featured on Western & Southern’s corporate Facebook and Twitter sites during NRPW will be retirement planning educational information and resources such as retirement calculators, a retirement confidence survey and a lifetime income solutions planner.
“At Western & Southern, we are committed to advancing America’s retirement conversation,” said Caner. “Promoting National Retirement Planning Week is another way to support that effort.”
Other Western & Southern initiatives demonstrating its commitment to retirement planning include:
- The launch in January 2011 of a media center that provides regularly updated retirement planning resources such as retirement facts, insights into retirement risk management and thoughts on financial challenges and developments;
- The introduction in August 2011 of a suite of materials to equip financial professionals with tools to open the door to discussions about retirement planning options;
- Coming soon, an educational campaign focusing on retirement rollovers that includes bronze level sponsorship of the Investment News Retirement Income Summit in Chicago April 30 to May 1, 2012.
