Leaders from across the cleantech community to engage in a lively roundtable discussion about key legal issues facing cleantech companies. Mr. Tran to highlight how new patent workflow tools can establish “first to file” status and reduce costs.
SANTA CLARA, Calif.: Bao Tran, founder and CEO of PowerPatent, has been invited to speak at the Third Annual UC Hastings Cleantech Roundtable in San Francisco on Friday, April 13, 2012. This year’s conference will explore the legal needs of cleantech startups.
Mr. Tran will participate on a panel, “Startup 101: Legal Issues in Launching a Cleantech Startup,” which will explore important legal issues facing cleantech startups. Discussion areas will include: the key considerations when selecting a corporate structure, including the benefits and key terms of an LLC agreement; the unique financial needs of a cleantech venture and how to structure early-stage financing; how to structure equity, including the number, classification, and division of founder’s shares; and how to manage intellectual property, including IP protection.
Mr. Tran, an experienced patent attorney who specializes in helping entrepreneurs and startups turn ideas into intellectual property, will touch upon how new patent workflow tools can be used to tackle the pressing time requirements associated with the “first to file” patent clause, and will discuss ways to reduce patent-filing costs while maintaining flexibility and quality in patent applications.
