Cleantech Open Western Region Announces 2012 Competition Semifinalists

The 47 semifinalist companies will now compete for regional prizes that include combined cash and in-kind services worth up to $20,000.

47 companies have been selected to compete in the Western region competition; 6 of them will face off against teams from around the nation in a quest for $1 million in prizes and the prestigious national cleantech title.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif.: The western region of the Cleantech Open (www.cleantechopen.com) announced that 47 semifinalist companies have been selected to represent the region in the world’s largest and most successful cleantech accelerator program. These regional semifinalists were selected from a talented pool of more than 100 cleantech entrepreneur teams from across California, Hawaii, and Nevada that applied to enter the western region competition this year.

The 47 semifinalist companies will now compete for regional prizes that include combined cash and in-kind services worth up to $20,000, with 6 regional winners advancing to compete at the national level for a grand prize of up to $250,000 in cash and services, and an overall prize chest of nearly $1 million.

“This year, we expanded our regional footprint, appointing metro directors to drive awareness and local engagement in six major metro areas across California and Nevada. These efforts paid off as we saw more entries than ever before, representing all areas of the region,” said Erik Steeb, regional director of the Cleantech Open western region. “We wish these semifinalist companies every success as they embark on the next phase of our proven accelerator program.”

Starting immediately, and over the next six months, the semifinalist companies will receive coaching from the Cleantech Open network of talented business mentors, one-on-one consulting with specialists, an intensive “business boot camp” at the Cleantech Open National Academy, and extensive local development events, training and materials. This support helps each company develop a comprehensive business plan and investor pitch that will be presented to professional investors and experts to determine which teams will advance to the national finals at the Cleantech Open Global Forum in November.

To see these teams and others, attend the Cleantech Open National Conference in San Jose on June 21:
